AIGA Austin has partnered with Curious Room to create a Poster Design Competition to raise funds for the Arc of the Capitol Area. The competition is open to all; submission fees will be donated to the Arc. A jury will select the top posters submitted. The selected posters will be shown and auctioned at the Arc gallery November 13, 2009. Two additional copies of each poster will be available for sale on the curiousroom.com web with a portion of the profits going to the artists and the Arc of the Arts.
What is Curious Room? Curiousroom.com is an online gallery devoted to art and design culture focusing on promotion and sales of local fine artists work. The Arc of the Capital Area, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing personalized, community-based services that improve the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

Guidelines
This competition is open to all.
Themes
We ask that the posters follow the building bridges themes from the Arc. Select one, a combination, or all, and have fun with it. Basic Needs, Family, Independence, Achievement
Poster size
24" x 36" or smaller
Format
We ask that submissions first arrive in electronic form (pdf or jpg) Four images maximum of each poster may be submitted: 1 actual size and 2-3 details. Selected designers and artists will be contacted and asked to submit 3 printed copies for auction/sale.
Submission Deadline

Guest Judges
Frank Curry has been a teacher and a commercial photographer for 15 years. Starting out with large format conceptual still lifes, he has now moved to small format digital and photographed everything from Amazonian frogs to celebrities with guns. He believes in the power of words and images and would consider himself a post neo-luddite if he knew what it meant.
David Kampa joined McGarrah Jessee as head of Chaos Concept Manufacturing in 2005. Previously he served as senior designer for design giants such as Sibley/Peteet Design Austin, Pirtle Design in Dallas, Texas Monthly magazine, and for 15 years was at the helm of Kampa Design with his wife Marcellina. His work is part of the AIGA Design Archive housed at the Denver Art Museum. He is a founding member of the Austin chapter of the AIGA. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Creative Circus in Atlanta and in 2008, he was named Adman of the Year from the Austin Advertising Federation.
Sean Carnegie, together with his wife Wendy Lewis created the studio Lewis Carnegie, a distinctive idea based studio fueled on strategic multi-disciplined solutions, inspired individual thinking and meaningful relationships with clients and the community. Their work has been featured and recognized by AIGA, Graphis, Communication Arts, Print, HOW, and AdFed. In addition to his professional work, Sean can still be found drawing, taking Polaroids, silkscreening and learning about the business of the arts. Sean has also taught at both the University of Texas at Austin and at Texas State University. He was past president of the Austin Chapter of the AIGA and currently resides on the chapter’s advisory board.
Joel Nakamura, an award–winning artist, is known for his unique style: a blend of folk art and sophisticated iconography rendered in a neo-primitive technique. His work has been in Time magazine, US News and World Report, and the Los Angeles Times. His paintings have enlivened the pages of many other books and publications, as well as the 2002 Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies’ programs. Nakamura has been profiled in Communication Arts, Step Inside Design, Confetti and Southwest Art magazines. He is proud to be the recipient of over two hundred awards of excellence.
