Date
Friday, September 18, 2009 - Thursday, October 8, 2009
Location
St. Edward's University
3001 S Congress Ave, Art Building, Austin, TX
Description

Presented by St. Edward's University Fine Arts Center Gallery.

Opening reception: September 18, 6 - 8 p.m.

The Office of Printed Ephemera presents a large collection of prints from the Office’s archive of collected digital content, which comes from sources such as Craigslist ads or Twitter posts. Each selected text is then archived in printed form via handset letterpress or hand-pulled silkscreen. The Office’s archive explores the parallels between turn-of-the-century printed ephemera and the current flood of fleeting digital content produced and distributed in real time via the internet. As a meditation on so-called "new" and "old" media, The Office of Printed Ephemera is a starting place for imagining new ways of understanding the rapidly unfolding digital world.

Sponsored in part by the Still Water Foundation.

Two days prior to the exhibition, Wednesday, September 16, 6:30 p.m., Jimmy Luu will give a public lecture: (IM)MATERIAL WORLD, OR THE IDEA OF TYPOGRAPHY IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL SIMULATION in the Maloney Room (Main Building rm 320).
