Description

Call for Submissions:

Ever wonder if you have what it takes to be one of Santa's elves? AIGA Austin's 2nd Annual Avenue of Misfit Toys Event is your chance to show the Big Guy what you're made of. Create a weird, wacky, one-of-a-kind 2-D or 3-D ornament, toy or other unusual holiday creation, in the medium of your choice, and bring it to Texas Folklife Resources (1317 South Congress Avenue). Submissions will be accepted anytime from noon to 6pm, during the week of Monday, December 1st through Friday December 5th.

All submissions will be exhibited and auctioned on Saturday, December 6, and proceeds will benefit Texas Folklife Resources. Prizes will be awarded this year for extra-special submissions in categories such as "Highest Craftsmanship," "Most Misfit," "Less is More," "Funkiest" and "Most Conceptual." Each submission will receive a thank you gift of a set of original, letter-pressed, blank greeting cards, designed around the misfit toy motif. A submission also guarantees one complimentary entry to the exhibit and event. Both team and individual submissions are welcome. About Texas Folklife Resources:

Texas Folklife Resources is a private, nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to celebrating and perpetuating the traditional arts and culture of the Lone Star State. They work directly with folk artists and communities to document living traditions and present them to the public through exhibitions, concerts, media projects and educational residencies. The folk arts not only testify to the rich cultural diversity of Texas but also represent a cultural continuum - as part of a proud heritage and dynamic force - in contemporary society. By recognizing and promoting the authentic artistic traditions passed down within communities, Texas Folklife Resources helps ensure they continue.
